IX. OLD BUSINESS
A. CONSIDERATION OF DEVELOPING A PAINTED TRAFFIC
SIGNAL BOX PROJECT FOR EL PASEO
Mr. Twedt stated that each project for the painted traffic
signal box program includes a large and small box, which
are located next to each other. He gave each artist a choice
of doing just one box or utilizing both boxes into the design.
The Commission reviewed the designs that were included in
the agenda packet by three pre -selected artists. Marcy
Gregory proposed a design that would incorporate both the
large and small boxes into one design. Staff appointed her
the box on San Pablo and El Paseo near Three Dog Bakery.
Maria Hunt proposed two individual designs {18 hole at
Desert Willow she named "A Birdie on the 18th , and a view
looking from the Visitor Center toward the mountains). Staff
assigned her the box in front of El Paseo Square. Elizabeth
Stephenson proposed a design for one box with different

designs on each side. She also included a second design
for the front of a box but did not include designs for the back
or sides. She was assigned the box in front of Bank of
America. It was the consensus of the Commission that it
preferred the wrap around designs as opposed to different
designs on each side of the box.
It was moved by Commissioner Grochau and seconded
by Commissioner Stenning to accept both designs from Maria
Hunt who will paint two sets of boxes and Marcy Gregory's
design that will include one set of boxes. Motion carried
unanimously with Commissioners Thompson and Weston

Dine's artwork is selected, Mr. Twedt's idea is to place it at
