PRESENTATION OF PROPOSED ARTWORK FOR THE ARCO STATION LOCATED AT 74-950 GERALD FORD DRIVE – PRESENTATION BY RICHARD TWEDT Mr. Twedt presented an image of the proposed artwork for the ARCO Station located at 74-950 Gerald Ford Drive. It was moved by Commissioner Hough and seconded by Commissioner Greenberg to accept the proposed artwork for the ARCO Station located at 74-950 Gerald Ford Drive with lighting being taken into consideration. Motion carried unanimously with Commissioners Broder and Roberge absent. VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS NONE IX. OLD BUSINESS A. PRESENTATION OF ART PROJECT AT HAMPTON INN & SUITES LOCATED AT 74-900 GERALD FORD DRIVE – PRESENTATION BY BILL WARE Mr. Ware presented sketches of three paintings of skyscapes that will be placed in the lobby at the Hampton Inn & Suites. It was moved by Commissioner Brody and seconded by Commissioner Koroczynsky to accept the skyscape paintings for the lobby area of the Hampton Inn & Suites located at 74- 900 Gerald Ford Drive. Motion carried unanimously with Commissioners Broder and Roberge absent. Minutes October 16, 2002 3 B. PRESENTATION OF ARTWORK FOR SITE #6 FOR THE 2003 EL PASEO EXHIBITION – PRESENTATION BY RICHARD TWEDT Mr. Twedt presented a photo of a kinetic elephant for site #6 (located at Sage and Lupine) for the 2003 El Paseo Exhibition. It is 12 feet tall, 10 feet wide and 4 feet in girth. It was moved by Commissioner Greenberg and seconded by Commissioner Grochau to accept the artwork represented by Elizabeth Edwards Fine Art for Site #6 for the 2003 El Paseo Exhibition. Motion carried unanimously with Commissioners Broder and Roberge absent. X. PROJECT STATUS REPORTS 1. Westfield Shoppingtown Palm Desert No report. 2. Website Mr. Twedt will be meeting with Kim Shannon of Sitewire today. The changes that Mr. Twedt recommended by Council and will be implemented. The North Wing Gallery and El Paseo Exhibitions will be archived. The Coachella Valley Arts Alliance will be the next show on exhibition. Mr. Twedt is digitalizing the entire the slide registry using a slide scanner. He is setting up a section for developers to access all forms and requirements necessary for Palm Desert’s art program. . 3. North Wing Gallery The closing reception for Mark Stephenson’s show is tomorrow night from 5 – 7. October 31 will be the opening for the Coachella Valley Arts Alliance Show from 5 – 7. 4. Brochure/map mockup Mr. Twedt received a draft of the art brochure and made several changes. Added all El Paseo Exhibition images, Mother/Child, Russell Jacques piece, Michael Watling’s piece, and Jon Krawczyk’s piece. It should be completed in a few weeks. Minutes October 16, 2002 4 5. Maintenance of Palm Desert’s Art Collection Andrea Morse of Sculpture Conservation Studio spent approximately three days evaluating the City’s art collection. After conducting a maintenance assessment she will come up with a maintenance program for the City’s collection. 6. Visiting Artists Lecture Series Mr. Twedt announced that we do have Terry Allen for February 12 at the Annenberg and is trying to get additional artists. UPDATE FOR MASTER PLAN PRIORITY SITES (The following items are for information only. No action is being sought nor will it be taken as a result of these reports.) REPORTS AND REMARKS A. STAFF Mr. Twedt stated that Gordon Huether will be in town today to review the Fred Waring Corridor site. B.
