REQUEST: STUDY SESSION FOR UPDATE ON THE DESIGN PROCESS OF THE
NORTH SPHERE FIRE STATION (FS 102)
RECOMMENDATION:
Receive an update on the current design and progress of the North Sphere Fire Station (FS
102).
BACKGROUND:
The City has approved the following contracts for the North Sphere Fire Station Project:
January 26, 2023: On-site design contract to PBK Architects. PBK is overseeing the fire
station site design on APN 694-160-015, this includes the building floorplan, apparatus
bays, covered parking, retention basin, and all the structural/mechanical/plumbing
needed for the building.
April 27, 2023: Off-site design Contract to ERSC. This engineering firm is designing the
street improvements associated with the new fire station along Gerald Ford Drive,
between Cook Street and Frank Sinatra Drive. The scope of work involves street
widening, bike lanes, median, curb and gutter, and a new traffic signal.
Other important dates to note:
July 14, 2023: PBK presented and received input from the Architectural Review
Commission on the conceptual building design options.
September 1, 2023: PBK submitted their Entitlement Package to the Development
Services Department.
