Discussion:
The Agency purchased a 141 unit apartment complex known as Country Club Estates in
March of 2003. This complex is located in the area commonly known as Palm Desert
Country Club along California and Elkhorn Drives. Since we purchased the complex, we
have found that several developments throughout the Valley use or propose to use, the
name Country Club Estates.

STAFF REPORT
Name Change of Country Club Estates

Staff has been in contact with legal counsel with regard to changing the name to California
Villas and he advises that the process is minimal. By changing the name to something
more indicative of street location, California, and size of units, Villas, as all 141 units are
one-bedroom, staff feels that this complex will begin to adapt to its own sense of
community as our other properties have done. The added benefit to the name change is
the street depiction of location. No other names were considered since the name,
California Villas, was a collaboration of the reasons for the name change. The Housing
Commission has discussed the proposed name change on July 9, 2003, and
Sept. 10, 2003and concur.
Staff solicited Requests for Qualifications for architectural services to renovate this project
and the new name of California Villas allows the architects a broader creative range.
