Anthony Mejia, City Clerk, reported on recent changes regarding the standardization of terms such as commission versus committee and the role of alternate members on advisory bodies. 5.ACTION CALENDAR A.APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER BUTTS, SECOND BY COMMITTEE MEMBER LUHRING, CARRIED 7-0, to approve the Public Safety Committee Regular Meeting minutes of September 13, 2023. Committee Member Kramer recommended the cause of the traffic accident be addressed when considering whether traffic calming is necessary. Committee Member Wahlstrom requested an update on traffic light timing and red light running. Assistant City Manager Escobedo introduced Emergency Services Coordinator Hurtado. Committee Member Luhring commended Mr. Hurtado on the new format of the Emergency Services Report. B. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON Council Member Trubee expressed gratitude for City staff and engineers for the quick response time of addressing concerns on Haystack Road; welcomed Lieutenant Porras; and reminded the Committee of the Golf Cart Parade taking place October 29, 2023. The first arriving company officer reported and audible alarm with sprinkler activation in one of the wings of the facility. A small electrical fire was contained in a storage closet, however there was significant water flow from the sprinkler activation. Firefighters were able to shut down the fire protection system, and began water salvage operations to reduce further damage. There were 33 patients in the affected wing, facility staff were able to relocate the patients to another part of the complex for the night. City of Palm Desert Building staff, and the Riverside County Fire Marshals officer will need to follow up in the morning. 23CARRU150102 10/9/2023 9:52:00PM CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported commercial structure fire at the Residence Inn - Palm Desert. The first arriving Fire Engine reported light smoke emitting from a two story, multi-unit hotel complex. Firefighters located the fire in the attic space of the 2nd story. The fire had been contained by the fire sprinkler system. The extinguishment of the fire caused extensive water damage to three units and Firefighters performed salvage operations to minimize damage. The hotel staff assisted the re-location of several occupants. 23CARRU154872 10/19/2023 12:22:00AM CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department resources were dispatched to a reported medical emergency on the "Cross" Hiking Trail. The first arriving Fire Engine Company Officer was advised by a Riverside County Sheriff's Department Deputy at scene that a hiker had fallen down a slope approximately 200 feet. An Inaccessible rescue response was initiated, and additional Engine Companies with the Ladder Truck and Utility Vehicle (Cart 33) responded to the incident. Firefighters made access to the patient and assisted the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Helicopter in hoisting the patient to an awaiting ground ambulance. After assessment by the Fire Department Paramedics, the patient refused transportation to the hospital. 23CARRU155408 10/19/2023 10:15:00AM CALFIRE / Riverside County Fire Department firefighters responded to a person down altered mental status and injuries on the Art Smith Hiking Trail. Patient contact was made and it was determined the patient had moderate injuries. UTV 33 along with other resources were required to safely remove the patient from the trail and deliver the patient to AMR.
