City of Palm Desert Page 1 PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE CITY OF PALM DESERT, CALIFORNIA MINUTES This meeting was conducted by teleconference, and there was in-person public access to the meeting location. 1.CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee was called to order by Chair Taylor on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 3:30 p.m. held in the Administrative Conference Room, City Hall, located at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California. 2.ROLL CALL Present: Committee Members, Gary Bindman, Joseph Butts, Terry Kramer, Doug Luhring, Vice Chair Jeff Alley and Chair Frank Taylor. Absent: None Liaisons: Evan Trubee, City Council Liaison Staff Present: Todd Hileman, City Manager, Chris Escobedo, Assistant City Manager and Michelle Nance, Recording Secretary, were present at Roll Call. CITY COUNTIL LIAISON None. C. POLICE AND FIRE Lt. Willison, Riverside County Sheriff and Chief Beverlin, CalFire gave thorough updates and answered questions from the Committee. D. CITY STAFF 1. Todd Hileman, City Manager provided an update on Budget for FY 23/24 and Public Safety Contracts and answered questions from the Committee. 2. Emergency Services Coordinator/ Administrative Assistant, Mindy Esqueda introduced herself to the Committee. 3. Tour Request: John Benoit Detention Center – Chris Escobedo, Assistant City Manager led discussion on potential tours during future meetings. 4. Summer meeting schedule – Chris Escobedo, Assistant City Manager asked the Committee for potential dates for a Summer Recess that will be brought back for the Committee to vote on at the June PSC Meeting. 7. First arriving Company Officer reported fire showing from the attached garage of a large single story single-family residence. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the garage with no extension into the main residence. 23CARRU066629 On , CAL FIRE / Riverside County Fire Department responded to a residential fire alarm at 1401 Sandpiper Street in the city of Palm Desert. The first fire engine arrived on scene to find light smoke coming from a single story duplex. Additional resources were requested to the incident to assist. No residents were in the home at the time of the fire. The fire was contained to the building of origin. Fire crews will remain on scene for the next two hours checking for hot spots.
