Tuesday June 6, 2023 8:30 a.m. Regular Meeting Item 5A-1 Parks and Recreation Committee Minutes June 6, 2023 City of Palm Desert Page 2 ALL ACTIONS ARE DRAFT, PENDING APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES B.ADOPT PARKS & RECREATION COMMITTEE MEETING SCHEDULE FOR FY 2023-24 MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MURPHY, SECOND BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MALDONADO, CARRIED 6-0 to adopt the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting schedule for FY 2023-24. 5.ACTION CALENDAR A.NORTH SPHERE COMMUNITY PARK UPDATE Interwest Consultant Gianno Feoli narrated a PowerPoint presentation on the conceptual design of the North Sphere Community Park and responded to Committee Member inquiries. The Committee provided feedback on the conceptual design. The Committee took no action on this item. B.BUMP & GRIND SELFIE STATION Community Services Manager Muir presented an update on the Bump & Grind Selfie Station and responded to Committee Member inquiries. Following discussion, MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MURPHY, SECOND BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MALDONADO, CARRIED 6-0 to approve the updated design and location for future selfie station installation at the Bump & Grind Trailhead. C.PALM DESERT AQUATIC CENTER (PDAC) FEE STUDY Community Services Manager Muir provided a brief background on the PDAC Fee Study and responded to Committee Member inquiries. Deputy Director of Finance Urban narrated a PowerPoint presentation detailing the potential PDAC fee increase options and responded to Committee inquiries. Following discussion, MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MURPHY, SECOND BY COMMITTEE MEMBER PERRY, CARRIED 6-0 to recommend to the City Council the approval of Option 3, gradually increasing the fees to reach a set fee at sixty-percent recovery. D.CIVIC CENTER PARK TENNIS COURTS TO PICKLEBALL COURTS Community Services Manager Muir narrated a PowerPoint presentation regarding the proposed conversion of three existing tennis courts into twelve pickleball courts and responded to Committee Member inquiries. Following discussion, MOTION BY COMMITTEE MEMBER FLINT, SECOND BY COMMITTEE MEMBER MALDONADO, CARRIED 6-0 to recommend that the City Council approve the conversion of three existing tennis courts into twelve pickleball courts. 6.INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & COMMENTS A.UPDATES FROM PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS •PALM DESERT AQUATIC CENTER Aquatic Manager David Keyes provided a verbal report on the Dive-In Movie event and Memorial Day weekend activities. Item 7B2-2 Palm Desert Community Center . . •Our Basketball League started on June 17, 2023, and goes on until July 29, 2023. We will utilize both the Palm Desert and Indio locations for this league. We had 332 children enrolled. •Summer Camp began on June 5, 2023, and will run through the summer until August 4, 2023. •We started offering Pickleball Round Robin Tournaments on the last Sunday of each month throughout the summer. We had 64 participants in June. •The All-Cities Blood Drive for Palm Desert was on 7/22/2023 here at the center and we had 27 people donate. •On August 12, 2023, we are partnering with the County of Riverside Health and will be having a vaccination clinic here at the center from 11am to 3pm. .
