CALL TO ORDER Thomas Soule called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Because there is no quorum, no matters of business will be acted upon. II. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS Mayor Jonathan thanked the Committee members for all their input and expertise, and gave each a thank-you card from the City Council. IV. NEW BUSINESS A. QUARTERLY UPDATE ON FY 18/19 AD CAMPAIGN PERFORMANCE BY IDEAPEDDLER Cimin Ahmadi-Cohen provided the update via teleconference. The City Council approved the new Media Plan on 9/28/18. IdeaPeddler built the plan and launched it on 10/15/18. She reviewed ads and results in magazines, on billboards, in the Palm Springs Airport, on Facebook, Google Display Network, Trip Advisor, Outbrain, Google Adwords and Adara. NOTES PALM DESERT MARKETING COMMITTEE December 4, 2018 2 Mr. Soule stated that the plan has been in effect for one month and they are optimizing where they can. So far, he is pleased with the results. Looking forward, it is time to develop a new ad campaign. He asked the Committee members for feedback on direction. Ed Cohen described the four big steps in developing a campaign: Research, Create, Deliver and Measure. He went over a proposal for the Research step. IdeaPeddler would hire an expert who would find 42 respondents for six focus groups. From there campaign details would be developed. The estimated cost is $47,736. After some discussion, the three members did not oppose the proposal and agreed that doing research first would be best. Mr. Soule would like to find a way to pay for the research in this fiscal year’s budget. B. CONSIDERATION OF BI-MONTHLY MEETING SCHEDULE Mr. Soule said that having additional meetings next year would be beneficial while developing a new ad campaign. The three members agreed. Mr. Soule will call a special meeting in February in order to have the Committee vote on changing the by-laws for meeting frequency. V. REPORTS AND REMARKS Jeffrey Norman reported that the City assisted with three major events at The McCallum Theatre: Family Fun Day, a free concert by the US Army Band and Soldiers Chorus, and the Choreography Festival. Ticket sales are meeting projections and there are many holiday events. Ray Rodriquez noted that the period after Thanksgiving is usually slow, but he has experienced a lot of activity this year. Bruce Nation agreed with Mr. Rodriguez, noting a record October and November at Desert Willow. Jan Hulahan stated that the JW Marriott experienced record numbers for Thanksgiving. Despite the hotel’s renovation being underway, they are ahead of pace. Martin Alvarez introduced new City employee Wayne Olson. Among other projects he will be assisting with the hotel and surf project at Desert Willow. Thomas Soule also introduced new City employee Vanessa Mager, who coordinates City events.
