Mr. Soule stated that the plan has been in effect for one month and they are
optimizing where they can. So far, he is pleased with the results. Looking
forward, it is time to develop a new ad campaign. He asked the Committee
members for feedback on direction.
Ed Cohen described the four big steps in developing a campaign: Research,
Create, Deliver and Measure. He went over a proposal for the Research step.
IdeaPeddler would hire an expert who would find 42 respondents for six focus
groups. From there campaign details would be developed. The estimated cost
is $47,736.
After some discussion, the three members did not oppose the proposal and
agreed that doing research first would be best.
Mr. Soule would like to find a way to pay for the research in this fiscal year’s
budget.
B. CONSIDERATION OF BI-MONTHLY MEETING SCHEDULE
Mr. Soule said that having additional meetings next year would be beneficial
while developing a new ad campaign. The three members agreed. Mr. Soule
will call a special meeting in February in order to have the Committee vote on
changing the by-laws for meeting frequency.
V. REPORTS AND REMARKS
Jeffrey Norman reported that the City assisted with three major events at The
McCallum Theatre: Family Fun Day, a free concert by the US Army Band and
Soldiers Chorus, and the Choreography Festival. Ticket sales are meeting
projections and there are many holiday events.
Ray Rodriquez noted that the period after Thanksgiving is usually slow, but he
has experienced a lot of activity this year.
Bruce Nation agreed with Mr. Rodriguez, noting a record October and
November at Desert Willow.
Jan Hulahan stated that the JW Marriott experienced record numbers for
Thanksgiving. Despite the hotel’s renovation being underway, they are ahead of
pace.
Martin Alvarez introduced new City employee Wayne Olson. Among other
projects he will be assisting with the hotel and surf project at Desert Willow.
Thomas Soule also introduced new City employee Vanessa Mager, who
coordinates City events.
