MINUTES

Chairperson Myrland convened the meeting at 9:02 a.m.

IV. CONSENT CALENDAR
A. Approve the Minutes of the regular meeting held on
December 9, 2020.
Commissioner Darby moved to approve the Minutes of
the December 9, 2020 meeting. Motion was seconded by
Commissioner Campbell and carried 7-0-0 with Adney, Boren,
Campbell, Darby, Hauer, Miller, and Myrland voting AYE.
V. DISCUSSION ITEMS
A. ORAL REVIEW OF CITY COUNCIL ACTION –
Ms. Lawrence reported that the City Council will appoint the
City Councilmembers to act as liaison to the City’s various
Committee/Commissions at its meeting of December 10,
2020.
B. PLANNING COMMISSION REPORT – Lindsay Holt
Ms. Holt asked that staff from the Planning Department
distribute the information regarding the property located on
Fred Waring and San Pablo. Ms. Lawrence reported that
she has talked to staff from Chandi Group regarding the
incorporation of public art into the project.
C. ARCHITECTURAL REVIEW COMMISSION (ARC) REPORT
– John Vuksic
No report.

VIII. CONTINUED BUSINESS
A. MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF OCTOBER 14,
2020 (Continued from the meeting of December 9, 2020).
Commissioner Boren moved to approve the Minutes of
the October 14, 2020 meeting. Motion was seconded by
Commissioner Darby and carried 7-0-0 with Adney, Boren,
Campbell, Darby, Hauer, Miller, and Myrland voting AYE.
IX. OLD BUSINESS

X. PROJECT STATUS REPORTS
A. 2021/2022 El Paseo Sculpture Exhibition
Ms. Lawrence reported that all eighteen sculptures for the
2021/2022 El Paseo Sculpture Exhibition have been
installed.
Otocast will be contacting the artists regarding the audio
walking tour on El Paseo.
Staff will provide the Commissioners with a thumbnail of the
eighteen sculptures/artists included in the 2021/2022 El
Paseo Sculpture Exhibition.
B. Documentary Film Series
Ms. Lawrence reported that YARN will screen virtually in
conjunction with UCR on January 13. There will be
discussion between Stephen Biller of Palm Springs Life and
Debra Mumm of CREATE Center for the Arts after the film.
The Lost Surrealist will screen virtually on February 11 and
The Radiant Child will screen virtually on March 11.

C. Traffic Signal Cabinet Beautification
Ms. Lawrence reported that the AIPP’s recommendation of
artist selection for the Traffic Signal Cabinet Beautification
project will go to City Council on January 14. Once it is
approved, staff will move forward with the project and will
contact the artists and vinyl company.
D. San Pablo Roundabout Call for Entries
Ms. Lawrence reported that the Call for Entries for the San
Pablo Roundabout was released on December 14 via CAFÉ
as well as other media (e.g. Press Release, the City’s social
media page, etc.) Palm Springs Life picked up the Call and
posted it on its website and sent it via eblast to their 30,000
subscribers. NBC News picked it up as well. The Call was
also posted on the Americans for the Arts and International
Sculpture websites, and by the Artists Council. To-date staff
has received eight applications. Also the Call was sent to
the artists on the mailing list of the past El Paseo Sculpture
Exhibitions.
E. San Pablo Public Art Plan
Ms. Lawrence reported that she met with the subcommittee
for the San Pablo Public Art plan on September 22, 2020.
Due to her high volume of COVID related duties, as well as
the deinstall and install of the El Paseo Sculptures
Exhibition, she had to delay another meeting. She is
planning to meet again at the end of January.
XI. REPORTS AND REMARKS
A. STAFF
1. Desert X
Ms. Lawrence reported that Desert X has been
postponed due to the current stay at home orders.
Once Riverside County returns to the Purple Tier
Desert X should commence.

2. Budget Update
Ms. Lawrence presented the budget to the
Commission. Staff will forward the budget information
to the Commissioners.
3. Law Enforcement Appreciation Day Art Event
Ms. Lawrence reported that the Law Enforcement
Appreciation Day Art Event was held last week at the
Palm Desert Sheriff’s Station. Families drove up and
dropped off art for the event. One hundred and sixty-
four works of art were received from the community
and a few schools. Ms. Lawrence presented a few of
the artworks created by the community.
B. COMMISSION REPORTS
Commissioner Hauer inquired of about having a discussion,
on the next agenda, of the Commission’s goals and
objectives as well as having permanent or temporary public
art in the City.
XII. ADJOURNMENT
Chairperson Myrland adjourned the meeting at 10:26 a.m.
