REQUEST: Request approval of special 8- page edition of the BrightSide newsletter focusing
on the energy crisis.
DATE: June 14, 2001
Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, approve a special 8-page edition of the BrightSide focusing on the energy
crisis. Appropriate $12,800 from the unobligated General Fund as follows:
Cost Activity Account#
$2,200 Writing and Production 110-4417-414-3026
$6,500 Printing 110-4417-414-3610
$4,100 Postage 110-4417-414-3660
Background:
With the summer rapidly approaching and the energy shortage upon us, staff, with prior
direction from Council, determined it was extremely important to keep Palm Desert residents
and businesses informed and up to date on the power crisis. The best manner in which to
communicate to them is through the BrightSide newsletter.
Therefore staff has moved forward with the writing and production of a special edition of the
BrightSide which focuses solely on the energy shortage. The newsletter includes information
about Palm Desert's efforts during the crisis, as well as helpful websites, phone numbers, and
tips on how to conserve.
Because the energy newsletter is in addition to the monthly scheduled production of the
BrightSide, no money was budgeted for this issue and a special appropriation of funds is
necessary.
