SUBJ: FOLLOW UP ON SWAP MEET INFO
On Sat. March 31 Bob Smith and a representative from the State
Board of Equalization did a check of the vendors at the swap meet.
Of 85 booths inspected the following is noted:
1 temporary permit issued
26 booths had current resale numbers issued to the swap meet
location. .
30 booths had current resale numbers issued to other than swap
meet location.
5 booths were using numbers that had been inactivated.
5 booths were using phony numbers
The rest of the booths had no current resale numbers.
All the persons having a current number will be issued a sub
number for the swap meet location. This is being done
automatically by the representative from the Board.
Some of the persons contacted Saturday have allready come into our,
office and taken care of the problem.
The representative from the Board and Bob Lilly, the supervisor at
the Board has advised me that the state is doing a survey of all
swap meet operations in the state with the thought in mind of
revising the current directives regarding the requirements placed
on the operator. It appears that they are very strongly
considering making the operator responsible to ensure that the
vendors have the proper resale number for the location of the swap
meet. The information from Saturdays sweep is being forwarded to
the State task force. The representative will continue checking
the booths to get everyone into compliance.
If the operator was required to ascertain the validity of the
vendors business license and resale number prior to renting him
space we could reduce our surveillance a great deal .
At the present time we have Bob checking the swap meet every Sat.
for at least 4 hrs. We spend more time patrolling this one
activity than we do any other business in the city.
Frankie Riddle is setting a follow-up meeting as you requested.
