HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 88-77 Voluntary Water Conservation Program INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council and City Manager
FROM: Richard J. Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director
SUBJECT: VOLUNTARY WATER CONSERVATION PROGRAM
DATE: July 14, 1988
RECOMMENDATION:
By minute motion, adopt Resolution No. 88-77 implementing a voluntary
water conservation program to reduce water consumption.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Palm Desert, in cooperation with the Coachella Valley Water
District and the Palm Desert Water 8 Services District, is initiating this
resolution to reduce the amount of water waste through voluntary measures and
education.
The State Department of Water Resources declared 1987 to be a dry year and
1988 a critically dry year . The governor of California has asked all
Californians to conserve water on a voluntary basis.
This resolution of the City Council of the City of Palm Desert urges
citizens to set a goal to reduce water use by ten percent. This reduction goal
can be met by simply avoiding water waste.
The City of Palm Desert's Public Works Department has been and will continue
to avoid water waste. Like the citizens of Palm Desert, we have a goal of
reducing all water waste, thus reducing city water consumption by ten percent.
Public Works staff recommends, by minute motion, adoption of this resolution
implementing a voluntary water conservation program.
