I. BACKGROUND: On December 17th the planning commission approved a precise plan and amendment to CUP 09-78 for a combination restaurant/office building to be constructed on the last vacant site within the Palms to Pines Village commercial complex. The main structure will be a two story, tile roofed, mediterranean style building with the ridge at the 30 foot height limit. The plan includes an elevator tower which will have a tile roof with a 33 foot peak. The additional 3 foot height was a recommendation of the Palm Desert Property Owner's Association Architectural Committee, who reviewed and approved the plan prior to submittal . The existing clock tower at Fidelity Savings located in the same center is 34 feet in height. The proposed tower will be setback approximately 200 feet from Highway 74. The city's architectural commission concurred with the property owner's association suggestion and recommended approval of the height exception. II.
