Library administrators in the new town of Almere in the Netherlands did something extraordinary. They redesigned
their libraries based on the changing needs and desires of library users and, in 2010, opened the Nieuwe Bibliotheek
(New Library), a thriving community hub that looks more like a bookstore than a library. The new library building
houses Almere’s public library, apartments and a lively shopping area.

In the City of Brampton, about 45 minutes west of Toronto, the Springdale Library
and Komagata Maru Park provide the suburban community with a new public library

counterpoint to the otherwise at a suburban area, and a point of pride for the city.

Storytime

Yes, it was great experience! I brought my granddaughter with me. She was
extremely focused during the entire time. The staff demonstrated not only
excellent storytelling skills but also actively engaged with the children.
They went beyond just reading the book, asking questions, and attentively
listening to the kids. I'm definitely planning to bring my grandkid back
again.

Picking up groceries for the week
People are doing their grocery
shopping, and staff are throughout
the whole store organizing or helping
customers.
People have been chatting with their friends
or families while getting their stuff. The
staff is walking around, organizing the
shelves and others helping or directing the
customers.
Different interactions and activities
happened in every corner, the whole
environment is very vibrant and
pleasant.
Products on the shelves, Shopping carts,
etc…
The staff is very approachable. They walk
around instead of staying in one
designated area, waiting for customers to
come, and they are always available to help
customers when asked.
