HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes 88-53 Kelly Ord Widening Valley Palms Estates and Deep Cyn Rd INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: City Council and City Manager
FROM: Richard J. Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director
SUBJECT: FRED WARING DRIVE KELLY ORDINANCE WIDENING BETWEEN VALLEY PALMS ESTATES
AND DEEP CANYON ROAD
DATE: May 26, 1988
RECOMMENDATION:
By minute motion: ( 1) Waive further reading and adopt Resolution No. 88-53
enabling the city to proceed with the subject Kelly
Ordinance widening.
(2) Authorize the City Clerk to advertise and call for bids
for the construction of the subject widening.
BACKGROUND:
The north side of Fred Waring Drive between Valley Palms Estates and Deep
Canyon Road currently provides one lane of travel for westbound traffic. Due to
the amount of traffic utilizing Fred Waring Drive, there currently exists a
demand and need of another lane for westbound travel . The traffic is currently
backing up at the Phyllis Jackson Lane signal to Cook Street in the morning
hours. There have been seven non-injury rear end traffic collisions since
January 1988.
The procedures for implementation of Ordinance 416 developed by our City
Attorney provides that the city schedule a public hearing where each property
owner may voice support or protest to the proposed project. Notice of this
public hearing was published and posted, as required by state statute.
After the City Council hears and passes upon all protests, the City Council
can determine to proceed with the project by authorizing the City Clerk to
advertise and call for bids for the construction of the street widening
improvements. There are four parcels fronting these proposed improvements. To
date, we have not received correspondence in favor or opposed to these
improvements.
Public Works staff recommends waiving further reading and adopting this
resolution enabling Public Works to proceed with the subject Kelly Ordinance
widening. In addition, Public Works staff recommends authorizing the City Clerk,
by minute motion, to advertise and call:fog 3CIL ACTION.
