INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
CITY OF PALM DESERT
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Richard J. Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works
Director
SUBJECT: STREET NAME AND NAME CHANGE FOR 42ND AVENUE AND NEW
STREET CONSTRUCTION BETWEEN CARLOTTA DRIVE AND WASHINGTON
STREET
DATE: October 26 , 1995
RECOMMENDATION:
Waive further reading and adopt Resolution No. 95-98 setting a
public hearing to consider a street name and name change for
existing street and new street construction between Carlotta Drive
and Washington Street .
BACKGROUND:
In December 1989 Hovley Lane was changed to Hovley Lane West and
Hovley Lane East with Portola Avenue the boundary between the east
and west designation. At that time, Hovley Lane East extended from
Portola Avenue to just past Carlotta Drive. Since that time, new
street construction has added a through section from Carlotta Drive
to the western most connection of 42nd Avenue west of Washington
Street .
After reviewing all options of street designations , it is
recommended that Hovley Lane East be the designated name for the
continuous section of street between Portola Avenue and Washington
Street. This would require a name change for that portion of 42nd
Avenue within the city limits west of Washington Street . From what
can be determined, there are no business or residential addresses
along 42nd Avenue that would be affected by the name change .
Public Works staff recommends the City Council adopt the resolution
to set a public he ring on the street name designation and change.
