City Manager/Public Works Director SUBJECT: PUBLIC HEARING FOR A STREET NAME CHANGE IN THE PRIMROSE II SUBDIVISION. DATE: August 13, 1992 RECOMMENDATION: Waive further reading and adopt Resolution No. 9 2-83 approving a street name change for Mayrn Court. BACKGROUND: The Public Works Department received a letter from the developer of the Primrose II subdivision to assist in a request that a spelling error in one of the street names be corrected. It appears that the street name Maryn Court got changed to Mayrn Court when the final map was drawn. Thomas and Diane Schmidt were the original developers of the project and had named the street after their daughter Maryn. Diane Schmidt will pay for the new street name sign and reasonable costs to property owners who have purchased homes on this street. A letter received May 20, 1992, indicates only one property owner is currently affected and they have agreed to the name change. It is not a r,,erior• deal to change a street name , especially when the Chang. is so minor , We dt i ct it at Sandcastles . All that has to be done is for you as Hov l ey Assoc . ( or what ever the owner entity is ) needs to send a brie* letter of request to the city ( Joe Gaugush in engineering ) aching for t hi street name correction and explaining the reason , Joe °sends it to Cit: Counci for approval and :it ' s a .done deal . The only glich is that any people who have purchased already must also give their permission . I understate that ono person has closed escrow on that street and is , at this time, muvin! app l i ences i n , At this point they may not have sent out change of addres- notices to everyone yet . I would be happy to reimburse this person ., reasonable cost for any stationary , etc . they may have purchased , i.f that a consideration , So , the city needs just a letter signed by the buyer sayin! it ' s O. K , with them to correct the name . If this weren 't such a big deal with my daughter I really wouldn 't care sc much about this , but she bar,. been so excited about seeing this street sig. that I hope you won ' t mired a little inconvenience to change this . Cummings : I am writing with a rather peculiar request related to your recent purchase at Primrose II . I will give you a capsule history of this tract so that you will understand my request . My husband and I processed the tentative tract map which created the project you now own a home in , Primrose II . We named one of the streets after our daughter , Maryn . During processing a mistake was made in the spelling of her name , and we didn ' t know it . The project was sold to the Hovley Associates group and- processing continued . They were not aware of the misspelling and it was not discovered until I drove by and saw the new street sign ! My daughter cried and I was surprised , and I subsequently found out what had happened . The street name can be corrected very easily through the city of Palm Desert . There is no cost to you or the developer . . I will pay for the street sign to be replaced . I will also be happy to pay for any costs you have incurred in printing stationary , or any other items with the name Mayrn Court , instead of Maryn Court . I would be happy to have printed announcements of your new address made up for mailing . In essence , the city and the developer are amenable to correcting the name . but I need your permission to process this correction . If this is O.ic . . please sign and date at the bottom and return. to me , or to Gig, or Michelle in the sales office at Primrose II .
