Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director SUBJECT: INFORMATIONAL ITEM: CITY OF PALM DESERT REFUSE RECYCLING PROGRAM DATE: November 10, 1988 The City of Palm Desert staff and officials are researching the possibility of working with Palm Desert Disposal to initiate a pilot residential recycling program in our city. On October 24th and 25th, Councilmember Richard Kelly and John Wohlmuth of my staff met with city officials from the City of Santa Rosa, California, to discuss a recycling program. During this trip, a meeting was also scheduled with Empire Waste Management located in Santa Rosa who administers the first recycling program in California. Staff has also contacted the Cities of Irvine, Petaluma, Redlands and Santa Monica to discuss recycling programs in those cities respectively. Public Works staff will have a full report, including a slide presentation, on the recycling program at this City Council meeting. RIC ARD J. FO-2144 S, P.E.
