DATE: November 10, 1988
The City of Palm Desert staff and officials are researching the possibility
of working with Palm Desert Disposal to initiate a pilot residential recycling
program in our city.
On October 24th and 25th, Councilmember Richard Kelly and John Wohlmuth of
my staff met with city officials from the City of Santa Rosa, California, to
discuss a recycling program. During this trip, a meeting was also scheduled with
Empire Waste Management located in Santa Rosa who administers the first recycling
program in California.
Staff has also contacted the Cities of Irvine, Petaluma, Redlands and Santa
Monica to discuss recycling programs in those cities respectively. Public Works
staff will have a full report, including a slide presentation, on the recycling
program at this City Council meeting.
