INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
City of Palm Desert 1
1/EFr'iF}r1_:
TO: CITY MANAGER AND CITY COUNCIL
FROM: DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT/PLANNING tflu on MP with Ci f Clerk's Office
DATE: JULY 10, 1986
SUBJECT: STREET NAME CHANGES WITHIN TRACTS 11636, 17794, 19824, AND 20817
Recommendation
Waive further reading and adopt Resolution No. 86-80 , approving street name
changes within Tracts 11636, 17794, 19824, and 20817.
Background
The streets are located within developments and would not impact existing
residents since the developments are, for the most part, still under
construction. The matter is more of a formality since staff previously
approved the names so that signs could be made up. The resolution is required
by the County Assessors Office since the original names (which staff reviews
during the map check) are on the final subdivision map when council approves
it.
Tract 11636, "Canyon Cove," had two separate streets that begin and end, then
continue again, all with the same name making it difficult for fire and police
to respond to the calls since it is hard to tell where the addresses begin and
end on the map. The fire marshal required the changes of the developer and
the new names are being used for houses that are currently under construction.
The Winterhaven condominium development on Hovley Lane originally had used
Desert Spring Drive for its interior streets. However, this conflicted with
the Marriott project and could result in some confusion for fire and police
and again staff required the change.
What was formerly "Desert Wolf Lodge" changed in name of the development to
"Park Palms" upon a new owner and it became apparent a new set of street names
would be necessary to replace inappropriate ones ( i .e. Barn Owl Lane) . The
names were changed after construction commenced. There should be no impact on
fire and police since the maps can easily be changed. However, the building
department files will have to be changed since permits were originally pulled
using the previous names though the units were unoccupied. Staff will take a
closer look at changing names within existing developments in the future due
to the work involved in switching over permit files.
The last tract involved is Palm Lake Village by Robertson Homes at the
northeast corner of Fred Waring and Cook Street. Prior to construction, but
