Folkers, Asst. City Wintigirinbtict 1JT]ce atUto£ity c1ex lc'§ Qf f: SUBJECT: ADDITION OF GOLF CART LANES ON COUNTRY CLUB DRIVE AND COOK STREET DATE: March 10, 1994 RECOMMENDATION: By minute motion, approve: (1) the installation of golf cart lanes on Country Club Drive between Cook Street and Oasis Club Drive by removing curb-side parking; (2) the use of a golf cart route in the existing bike lanes on Cook Street from Fred Waring Drive to Country Club Drive. (3) Extend the golf cart lanes along Country Club Drive from Cook Street to Desert Springs Drive once the area's roadway construction is completed. BACKGROUND: Staff received a request for the expansion of golf cart lanes to include and connect Country Club Drive and Cook Street to the rest of the city. Staff has studied the concept and sees the merit in the expansion of the golf cart program. By eliminating the parking along Country Club Drive between Cook Street and Oasis Club Drive, golf cart/bike lanes can be installed. Elimination of parking along Country Club Drive is not expected to create adverse impact in serving the area's parking needs. Adjacent streets as well as the neighboring country clubs can provide parking for any events that may be held. Cook Street currently provides bike lanes from Fred Waring Drive to Country Club Drive. Curb-side parking has been eliminated to provide bike lanes. By installing golf cart signage, the bike lanes could also be used to accommodate golf carts. Public Works staff recommends: (1) the installation of golf cart lanes on Country Club Drive from Cook Street to Oasis Club Drive with the inclusion of golf cart lanes on Country Club Drive from Cook Street to Desert Springs Drive upon completion of construction and (2) the use of a golf cart route in the existing bike lane on Cook Street from Fred Waring Drive to Country Club Drive. (3) Extend the golf cart lanes along Country Club Drive from Cook Street to Desert Springs Drive once the area's roadway construction is completed. RIC ARD J. F KERS, P.E.
