On January 15, 1997, a group composed of R. Kelly, S. Gilligan, R. Diaz and J.
Wohlmuth met with Kemper Management staff to discuss two requests by organizations
who wished to sponsor golf tournaments at Desert Willow. The organizations
requested amongst other things that the City make the Golf Course available at no cost
for the particular tournaments As a result, the group decided to recommend a policy
for hosting charity events. The City Council will need to discuss the recommended
policy and direct the City Attorney to draft in the form of a resolution.
► Requests for use of the Golf Course by charitable organizations will be made
through the City's Charitable Contributions Committee.
► The organization must be a bona fide charitable organization and qualify as an
IRS Code 501c (3) charity.
► The charity must be approved by the City Council as a charitable organization.
► The charity must directly provide benefits or services to Palm Desert residents.
► Charity events will be limited to six per year. Additional events may be
authorized by the City Council on a case-by-case basis.
► Charity events must be played between April 15 and the following January.
Exemptions to this limitation may be made by the City Council with the Golf
Course Operator's approval.
► A minimum fee of $25.00 per participant will be charged to cover carts, fees,
hourly labor and gratuity. In addition, the sponsoring organization would be
charged for food/beverage, and tee prizes if requested.
► The Junior Golf Program may schedule tournaments with these not counting
against the six allowed.
