JANES SUBJECT: FY 2000-2001 CDBG RECIPIENTS Recommendation: That the City Council approve the FY 2000-2001 CDBG recipients. Background: The Outside Agency Funding Committee met on November 29, and selected ten agencies to receive block grant funds for FY 2000-2001. Additionally, I have attached a memorandum that was prepared for the Committee which provides a summary of this year's applicants, and the amounts that were requested; a total of$240,000 was available for distribution. The following are the agencies that have been recommended for funding: Capital 1. College of the Desert- $50,000 2. Foundation for the Retarded- $50,000 3. Palm Desert Home Improvement Program- $90,880 4. CV Boxing Club - $3,000 5. County of Riverside Housing Authority(nightengale) - $10,120 Total - $204,000 (85%) Public Service 6. JANES SUBJECT: FY 2000-2001/CDBG The following is a summary of the Community Development Block Grant applications that were submitted to the City this year for FY 2000-2001: Total number of applications: 18 (6 capital & 12 public service) Total CDBG funding this year: $240,000.00 (estimated/County doesn't have exact figures yet) Total requests: $497,432.30 Funds available for capital improvement projects: $204,000.00 (85%) Capital improvement requests: $315,120.00 Funds available for public service agencies: $36,000.00 (15%) Public service requests: $182,312.30 This year's applicants and the amount that was requested: Capital 1. College of the Desert- $50,000 (ADA improvements to science building) 2. Foundation for the Retarded- $80,000 (interior/exterior improvements to existing facility) 3. MEA Medical Foundation- $15,000 (purchase of two computer workstations) 4. PD Redevelopment Agency - (any increase/decrease in allocation) - $150,000 (HIP) 5. CV Boxing Club - $5,000 (purchase of equipment) 6. Housing Authority of the County of Riverside (Nightengale) - $10,120 (repair of six kitchens) Public Service 7. Liga Nacional de Consumidores - $6,600 (provides fraud prevention programs to low/mod. latinos) 8. Shelter from the Storm- $9,347.30 (admin.) 9. County of Riverside (DPSS) - $3,600 (cold weather shelter) 10. Desert AIDS - $20,900 (admin.) 11. FISH- $12,000 (admin.) 12. Community Access Center- $7,500 (housing advocacy for the disabled) 13. FIND - $14,500 (admin.) 14. Emmanuel House - $19,735 (bevearement program) 15. Rev. William Faiella, CSC - $33,130 (health education and support for people with life threatening illnesses) 16.
