SUBJECT: 24TH COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
FUNDING YEAR RECOMMENDATIONS
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council approve the recommendations from the Charitable Contribution
Committee for the 24th Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding year.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Palm Desert will be receiving a total allotment of $231,000 for this 24th CDBG
funding year. Of these funds, 85% or $196,000 has to be used toward Capital
Improvement/Acquisition Projects. The remaining balance 15% or $35,000 will be
disbursed amongst public service agencies.
Using this criteria, the Charitable Contribution Committee has recommended grants be
awarded to the following agencies who have demonstrated that at least 51% of the people
they serve are from either low or moderate income households. *(REVISED at the January
6, 1998, Charitable Contribution Committee meeting.)
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT/ACQUISITION
1. Foundation for the Retarded *$50,000
Pursuant to CDBG guidelines, these funds are to be used only for interior
improvements to the existing facility; and a contract cannot be executed until after
July 1, 1998.
2. Home Improvement Program *$70,000
(City of Palm Desert Redevelopment Agency)
3. Family YMCA of the Desert $46,000
4. Desert AIDS $20,000
5. ABC Recovery Program $10,000
