INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
CITY OF PALM DESERT
TO: THE HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF CITY COUNCIL, AND
ACTING CITY MANAGER
FROM: RAY L. JANES, MANAGEMENT ANALYST II
SUBJECT: 21ST YEAR COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT
REPROGRAMMING
DATE: DECEMBER 14, 1995
RECOMMENDATION
That City Council approve the reprogramming of $16,575 from the Foundation for the
Retarded of the Desert's 21st Year grant of $148,365 to the 22nd Year allocation.
BACKGROUND
On August 24, 1995, upon staff recommendation, City Council approved an award of
$131,600 to the Foundation for the Retarded of the Desert in order to complete Phase
II of their expansion. The Foundation also received $20,000 from Cathedral City and
$1,000 from Desert Hot Springs in CDBG to meet their request of $152,600 to fund the
project.
The City's 22nd Year allocation exceeded expectation by $16,575. When the County of
Riverside compiled the final statement of award, they added this amount to the
Foundation project in order to allow the City to keep the funds for use on a future
project. If the County had not added the funds to an existing project, the funds would
have been distributed to another city or back to the County. Reprogramming the funds
to the 22nd Year will increase the allocation by $16,575 and allow the City to increase
contributions to organizations and City projects which benefit low and moderate income
residents.
