Folkers, ACM/Director of Public Works SUBJECT: REPLACEMENT OF HEATING - A/C UNITS ON CIVIC CENTER BUILDINGS DATE: March 25, 1999 RECOMMENDATION: By minute motion accept the proposed by Hugh Hoard, Inc. (H & H) to install a proto-type heating/air conditioning (HVAC) unit to be used for future bidding. BACKGROUND: There are 12 roof HVAC units on the Community Service and Administrative buildings that are scheduled for replacement. There are design problems that have made equipment and installation specifications difficult to develop. H & H Heating - A/C has been performing the majority of repair and service to the Civic Center facility and is very familiar with all aspects of our HVAC units and installation. While trying to prepare specifications, Public Works staff requested a completed installation proposal that would replace an existing unit with no or minimum roof modification and use the existing electric, gas, condensation drains and roof intake and discharge openings. The installation requirements also included all new exterior duct work and a platform cap that would facilitate the installation of a urethane foam roof without any interference from the HVAC units. Attached is a cost proposal for the complete installation of one unit to be used as a standard reference for the bidding of other replacement units. Public Works staff recommends the City Council approve the installation proposal.
