Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director SUBJECT: INFORMATION ITEM: LANDSCAPING OF CIVIC CENTER ENTRYWAYS DATE: November 14, 1991 Based upon the request from the City Council for consideration of changing the three entryways to drought-tolerant landscaping, we have obtained the following cost estimates: ENVIRONMENTAL CARE, INC. $7,793.91 ARROWHEAD LANDSCAPE $7,520.50 These costs include the removal of sod and soil to two inches below curb; planting of 120 five-gallon plants (forty plants per entrance) ; retrofit of the irrigation system to drip emitters; and the installation of Palm Springs Gold fines. The above figures do not include the estimated cost to purchase the plants, which is under $1 ,000, nor the cost of relocating Crepe myrtle trees ont he Fred Waring Drive entrance and the Brazilian Peppers at the YMCA entry. The cost to relocate the Crepe myrtle and Brazilian Pepper trees to other locations in the Civic Center has been estimated at $800. Finally, we will need to purchase and install six palm trees at $750 each or $4,500. The total estimated costs are as follows: Changeover to Drought Tolerant $ 7,600.00 Plants and Shrubs 1 ,000.00 Relocate Existing Trees 800.00 New Palm Trees (6) 4,500.00 $13,900.00 It should he noted that these costs do not include any design, consultant or staff time. �� CITY COUNCIL ACTION: DENIED 177- l'4A- d-a4" i�rPPROVED RI HARD J.(LKERS, P.E.
