HomeMy WebLinkAboutWaiver Big Brothers Big Sisters 2nd Annual Palomino 5K Run and Walk ( W ( CITY OF PALM DESERT MEMORANDUM To: Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council From: Community Affairs Specialist Date: August 26, 1999 Re: WAIVER OF FEES ASSOCIATED WITH BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF THE DESERT SECOND ANNUAL PALOMINO 5K RUN/WALK Recommendation: By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Desert Second Annual Palomino 5K Run/Walk scheduled to be held on Sunday,September 12, 1999,in Palm Desert Civic Center Park. Background: Beginning in 1998 Big Brothers Big Sisters of The Desert sponsors an annual Palomino 5K Run/Walk to raise funds for their programs at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. This year's activity is scheduled to be held on September 12, 1999,and event planners recently met with staff to outline and obtain approval for their proposed activities. Since this event is held for the sole purpose of raising funds, event planners are requesting that the following required fees be waived: a Maintenance Worker($30.00 an hour for six hours), reservation fee, and administration fee for a total of$270.00. In return of this consideration,the City of Palm Desert will be recognized on all event publicity and materials. Staff recommends approval of this request, which is to waive the fees associated with this event on Septemb 12, 1999, at a total cost of$270.00. At this point in President time, we would like to ask the city to waive the fees associated with use of the B.Saul Jacobs,Esq. Civic Center Park for this event. Vice President Agency Operations I have sent all of the event insurance information to our broker. You should e Percy Byrd receiving this information shortly. Vice President Resource Development The registration for the race will begin at 6:30 a.m. on September 12, 1999 in Gustavo Gonzalez Treasurer the park. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. We are estimating 300 participants Jeffrey Levine and 100 spectators. Secretary I am enclosing a.revised course map for your approval. We would like to know Wendy Alderson-Soda if it is okay to cone a small runners lane on San Pablo and Magnesia Falls as Donna Collings indicated on the map. Water stations will be set-up Rick Kanow around the course. Palomino Euro Bistro Restaurant is supplying Martin Lax,Esq. complimentary refreshments to the participants after the race. Doug Newton We will have 40 - 50 volunteers the day of the race stationed throughout the Richard Olson race route to assist participants if needed. We are not planning any other Tom Railsback activities after the race. We will have booths set-up throughout the course for Leetrianae Richardson David Suss our sponsors to share information to the participants.
