Re: WAIVER OF FEES ASSOCIATED WITH CITY OF HOPE LAUREN'S RUN
Recommendation:
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with City of Hope Lauren's Run scheduled to be held on
Saturday,November 13, 1999, in Palm Desert Civic Center Park.
Background:
Each year the City of Hope sponsors Lauren's Run to raise funds for pediatric cancer research, and this is
the second year that the Palm Desert Civic Center has been selected as a host site for this event. This
year's activity is scheduled to be held on November 13, 1999, and event planners recently met with staff
to outline and obtain approval for their proposed activities. Since this event is held for the sole purpose
of raising funds, event planners are requesting that the following required fees be waived: a Maintenance
Worker ($30.00 an hour for seven hours), reservation fee, and administration fee for a total of$300.00.
In return of this consideration, the City of Palm Desert will be recognized as a"Corporate Benefactor"on
all event publicity and materials.
Staff recommends approval of this request, which is to waive the fees associated with this event on
Nove ber 13, 1999, at a total cost of$300.00.

Re: Amendment to request for use of Palm Desert Civic Center Park
for"Lauren's Run".
Dear Pat:
As you are aware, the City of Hope recently applied for approval and waiver of fees for
use of Palm Desert Civic Center Park for our 5th Annual "Lauren's Run" scheduled to
take place on Saturday,November 13, 1999.
In the cover letter submitted with the application, please note that an in-line skating race
is one of the events that will take place this year.
Upon recently learning that the City of Palm Desert is building a new "skate park"
scheduled to open in August, we would like to request permission to use the facility (one
course) for our in-line skate event portion of"Lauren's Run". Please add this request to
our application currently on file.
Thank you for your support. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at
760/779-0151.
Sincerely,
fid, Zct

Re: Approval of City of Hope's 5th Annual Desert Communities
"Lauren's Run"to be held on Saturday, November 13, 1999
Dear Dick,
On November 14, 1998 the City of Hope held its 4th Annual Desert Communities
"Lauren's Run", a pediatric fundraiser, at Palm Desert Civic Center Park for its third
consecutive year. The City of Palm Desert generously supported this event by waiving
all fees and costs and in return for the City's generosity was designated as a"Corporate
Benefactor" and recognized on all collateral materials and event t-shirts. It is our hope
that the City of Palm Desert will again support this family, fun-filled event by approving
the enclosed application and waiving all fees and costs for use of the Palm Desert Civic
Center Park in conjunction with the 5th Annual Desert Communities"Lauren's Run".
Once again, the City of Hope will recognize the City of Palm Desert as a"Corporate
Benefactor".
Please be advised that the City of Hope will provide$1,000,000.00 liability insurance
naming the City"additionally insured",will place portable trash containers at the site,
will furnish all volunteers needed and will clean up all areas utilized after the event.
As you may recall, "Lauren's Run"was founded in 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia in memory
of Lauren Zagoria, a courageous two-year old who lost her battle with cancer. Now a
national event, proceeds go to the Lauren Zagoria Pediatric Cancer Research Fellowship
at City of Hope National Medical Center and Beckman Research Institute.
This year's event will feature a 1K race, stroller roll, tot trot and an in-line skating race;
children through age 15 are eligible to participate. Other attractions will include clowns,
face painting, and balloon animals. In addition, the following organizations have been
