HomeMy WebLinkAboutRecycling Program t + , Ps.,\ INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: City Council and City Manager FROM: John Wohlmuth, Environmental Conservation Manager SUBJECT: RECYCLING PROGRAM DATE: September 14, 1989 RECOMMENDATION: By minute motion, authorize the appropriation of $9,234.26 from the unallocated general fund budget reserve to the Recycling Program. BACKGROUND: On November 29, 1988, the City Council appropriated $25,000 for the Curbside Recycling Pilot Program. The program was anticipated to cost $50,000, with the city funding half of the program. The program began on January 16, 1989, and was anticipated to be completed by July 16, 1989. The last invoice paid to Waste Management of the Desert was for the period ending May 31 , 1989. As of the end of May, the billings total $11 ,405. The city has not paid the invoice dated June 30, 1989, as well as all recycling operational expenses from July and August to date. The remaining $9,234.26 is the amount of budget not carried over to the current fiscal year and is adequate to cover the expenses until negotiations with Waste Management of the Desert are final . These monies were not carried over to the 1989-90 fiscal year budget; therefore, no additional monies over and above the $25,000 is necessary.
