RE: INFORMATIONAL ITEM
PALM DESERT'S SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP
The City of Palm Desert's SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP will be Saturday, June 21, 1997. The
program will feature three convenient ways to participate:
1. Donations to The Salvation Army
2, Curbside Collection
3. Drop-Off Locations
- Palm Desert City Hall, Parking Lot
- Portola Avenue and Haystack Road
- Palm Desert Country Club
In addition, to the three convenient ways to participate, a special service is available for disabled
residents who need assistance in getting items from their backyard or garage to the curb for collection.
The brochure (attached) announcing SPRING NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP (on behalf of Waste
Management of the Desert customers) will be inserted in the City's May newsletter. Staff has been
working with Western Waste Industries to present a comparable program for their customers. Western
Waste will be offering their customers curbside and drop off locations for service on June 21, too. A
notice will not be prepared this time for their customers, however, ad(s) will be placed in the newspaper.
Western Waste has agreed to prepare and mail a formal notice for the FALL cleanup.
Staff attempted for both of the City's haulers to plan this program in conjunction for better customer
service. One hauler declined to participate jointly. Staff hopes that for the fall cleanup, the haulers will
work jointly with staff to plan the program.
The following is a status report from our FALL NEIGHBORHOOD CLEANUP conducted Saturday,
November 16, 1996, with Waste Management of the Desert:
The Salvation Army: Participation from Palm Desert residents donating to their
organization was good. They reported filling seven large truck
loads with donated and reusable items.
