HomeMy WebLinkAboutAmendment to County Ord 630 Animal Control INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM City of Palm Desert TO: CITY MANAGER AND CITY COUNCIL FROM: WAYNE RAMSEY, DIRECTOR OF CODE COMPLIANCE SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF AMENDMENT TO RIVERSIDE COUNT ANIMAL CONTROL ORDINANCE NO. 630 DATE: FEBRUARY 9 , 1995 I. BACKGROUND: The City has adopted Riverside County Animal Control Ordinance No. 630 - Regulating the Keeping of Dogs and Cats and Provides for the Control of Rabies, in July, 1994 . II . DISCUSSION: The County has presented the City with a change to the Ordinance which would require that unaltered or unspayed cats over the age of four months not be permitted to be or remain outdoors . It also offers the option of licensing cats at a fee of $9 . 00 for the period of time covered by the immunity provided by the vaccine . This amendment may have some effect on persons who want cats, but not in the house, otherwise I cannot foresee any effect on cats that have been allowed to become wild and no one claiming responsibility. Most calls regarding stray cats are in the nature of wild cats or unattended cats . Discussions with our Animal Control personnel confirms staff' s convictions in this regard. They also feel that the amendment is unnecessary unless there is mandatory licensing requirements for cats . The County has requested the minute motion response from us . III. RECOMMENDATION: Staff sees n quireaasciAhACTZament at this time . APPROVE" DENTED WAYNE L. RAM Y .gs DIRECTOR OF CODE COMPLIAN ?'f_ . frt.2.-L_ .
