ORDINANCE NO. 760
INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
City of Palm Desert
TO: BRUCE ALTMAN, CITY MANAGER
FROM: WAYNE RAMSEY, ACTING DIRECTOR OF CODE COMPLIANCE
SUBJECT: ADOPTION OF RIVERSIDE COUNTY ORDINANCE NO. 534. 5 AND
ORDINANCE NO. 716
DATE: AUGUST 25, 1994
I. BACKGROUND:
The Joint Powers Agreement with Riverside County Animal
Control made reference to Ord. No. 534. 5 and No. Ord. 716,
which the City never approved.
II. DISCUSSION:
I first discussed the above with the Contract Administrator,
who advised that that portion of the agreement should be left
blank. Later, Jim Olguin contacted me and advised that the
County recommends that the City adopt the ordinances. The
adoption of these ordinances will give the Animal Control
Officers the power to issue citations.
Ord. No. 534. 5 covers the control of all domestic animals
other than dogs and cats; specifically farm type animals.
Currently, the "not permitted use" section of the Zoning
Ordinance allows the City to control such classifications
coming into our jurisdiction and enables us to enforce
compliance with the ordinance.
Ord. No. 716 speaks specifically to cruelty to animals.
III. RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that Council adopt Riverside County
Ordinances 534. 5 and 716 as presented.
