INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
CITY OF PALM DESERT
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council
FROM: Richard J. Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works
Director
SUBJECT: RATIFICATION OF SOIL PURCHASE FROM THE COACHELLA VALLEY
WATER DISTRICT FOR THE COOK STREET EMBANKMENT
DATE: October 26, 1995
RECOMMENDATION:
By minute motion, ratify the purchase of 60, 000 cubic yards of dirt
from the Coachella Valley Water District in the amount of $160,000
for the Cook Street embankment.
BACKGROUND:
Late this summer the City of Palm Desert had the opportunity to
purchase 40, 000 cubic yards of soil compacted in place at a cost of
$2 . 75 per cubic yard for the Cook Street embankment south of the
Southern Pacific Railroad. Since it would not be possible to
complete the cast-in-place box for the future Mid-Valley Stormwater
Channel until later in the year, we had 20,000 cubic yards placed
on the City-owned property on the southeast corner of Cook Street
and the Gerald Ford Drive extension at a cost of $2 .50 per cubic
yard.
Staff is requesting ratification of the purchase of the dirt from
the Coachella Valley Water District in the amount of $160,000 for
the Cook Street embankment. Funds are available in the Cook Street
and I-10 Interstate Interchange Account No. 481-4389-433-4001 .
