Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director SUBJECT: RATIFICATION OF SOIL PURCHASE FROM THE COACHELLA VALLEY WATER DISTRICT FOR THE COOK STREET EMBANKMENT DATE: October 26, 1995 RECOMMENDATION: By minute motion, ratify the purchase of 60, 000 cubic yards of dirt from the Coachella Valley Water District in the amount of $160,000 for the Cook Street embankment. BACKGROUND: Late this summer the City of Palm Desert had the opportunity to purchase 40, 000 cubic yards of soil compacted in place at a cost of $2 . 75 per cubic yard for the Cook Street embankment south of the Southern Pacific Railroad. Since it would not be possible to complete the cast-in-place box for the future Mid-Valley Stormwater Channel until later in the year, we had 20,000 cubic yards placed on the City-owned property on the southeast corner of Cook Street and the Gerald Ford Drive extension at a cost of $2 .50 per cubic yard. Staff is requesting ratification of the purchase of the dirt from the Coachella Valley Water District in the amount of $160,000 for the Cook Street embankment. Funds are available in the Cook Street and I-10 Interstate Interchange Account No. 481-4389-433-4001 . RIC ARD J. ��LKERS, P.E.
