EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
I’m Stephen Nelson, your candidate for Palm Desert City Council, District 3. I’m running for City Council because we need fresh ideas and competent leadership. My approach is aligned with the core values of North Palm Desert – integrity, respect, and community engagement. By working together, we can create a well-balanced, secure, and thriving community that reflects our shared values and embraces sustainable progress.
As a small business owner, I know what it takes to effectively manage finances and staff. As a member of the Public Safety Committee and longtime North Palm Desert resident, I know how critical public safety is. As your next Councilmember, my top priority is restoring a safe Palm Desert by:
●Investing in Public Safety by reversing the law enforcement cuts that caused a 45% increase in crime, restoring police staffing to safe levels. ●Balancing the Budget by putting a stop to wasteful spending. ●Strengthening Our Local Economy by establishing Palm Desert as the technological hub of the region, generating new jobs for our community.
Let’s work together to build a safer, more vibrant North Palm Desert that reflects our collective vision for a better future.

OCCUPATION: Palm Desert Councilmember / Businesswoman
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
Palm Desert has been my home for 25 years. Since 2016, I have served on the Palm Desert City Council. While working and raising our children, our family has created a legacy of community service that focuses on lifting our community through extensive volunteering and my work at Sacred Heart School.
Public Safety is my priority – it is critical to community success. Utilizing technology and partnering with our Sheriff and Cal-Fire has increased safety and improved response times while containing costs.
Palm Desert depends on hotel and sales tax. Supporting unique offerings like the Acrisure Arena, Desert Willow Golf Resort, Palm Desert Aquatic Center, and reimagining the Palm Desert Mall, encourage visitors and residents to shop, stay, and enjoy Palm Desert.
We must continue to address our unique needs in North Palm Desert:
●Dust Mitigation & Air Quality ●Review and address relevant zoning ordinances for housing and commercial construction ●Ensure quality housing for all, including retirees, our workforce professionals, teachers, and first responders ●Develop a town center with commercial uses and a regional park ●Broad Band Plan enhancing connectivity for businesses and residents ●Expand Cal State University Palm Desert Campus

OCCUPATION: Educator / Attorney
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:
As an educator and public interest attorney dedicated to advocating for Coachella Valley communities for the past decade, I am running for City Council to ensure North Palm Desert remains a wonderful place to live.
My professional experience equips me to be a strong voice for North Palm Desert, making smart, informed decisions for our community’s best quality of life. If elected, I will ensure our district’s growth is strategic and that our city remains a place where everyone can thrive.
Priorities:
●Public Safety: Emergency preparedness following recent storms and fires is critical, and I’ll work with our police and fire departments to keep our neighborhoods safe. ●Protecting Seniors & Working Families: Many seniors and working families struggle to make ends meet. I will work to improve essential services, public transportation, and equitable access to affordable housing and community resources. ●Economic Growth: Local small businesses are our lifeline. I will push to cut the red-tape stifling small businesses, and work to attract diverse industries aligned with the expected growth of our region. ●Sustainable Development: I will advocate for policies that protect our environment, reduce our carbon footprint, and foster a vibrant, walkable North Palm Desert.
