Dear Mayor Spiegel and Council Members:
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program is preparing for the annual celebration and
recognition of the many seniors who donate their time and talents in Palm Desert and
throughout the Coachella Valley. I am pleased to report that the RSVP program
continues to grow and more senior volunteers than ever are generously sharing their
time and experience with the community. RSVP's efforts to recruit new volunteers
yielded over 255 new members last year, bringing the total number of active volunteers
to 1,387!
We want to invite the City of Palm Desert to be our partner in honoring the Palm Desert
volunteers at the November 4, 2004 recognition luncheon, "Volunteers are America's
Spirit".
Last year 281 RSVP volunteers supported 22 non-profit agencies in Palm Desert with
21,658 hours of service. This value in your city is over$372,301 in saved payroll
dollars! Of the Palm Desert residents who participate in the RSVP program, 198 have
donated over 100 hours and will be invited to the recognition luncheon. Our request to
you is to sponsor 100 of the Palm Desert volunteers at the luncheon at $25.00 per
volunteer. This modest $2,500 partnership will help us partially offset the cost of
providing this much deserved recognition celebration.

We are very proud of the RSVP program and the volunteers who participate. We hopes
you will join us in saying thank you.
On behalf of all of the senior volunteers, I look forward to hearing from you soon. If you
have any questions please call Fran Ferguson, RSVP Director at 760/341-0401.
Sincerely,
Donnis Thompson, Ed.D.
