Re: BEER & WINE CONCESSION FOR SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL OF
PALM DESERT FALL MEETING
RECOMMENDATION:
By Minute Motion, permit the sale, possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages
on City-owned property in connection with Soroptimist International of Palm Desert's
Fall Meeting scheduled to be held at the Civic Center Park on October 15, 1999.
DISCUSSION:
Pursuant to Palm Desert Municipal Code 9.58.040, the City Council must grant
permission to allow alcoholic beverages within the Civic Center Park. Soroptimist
International of Palm Desert is the applicant for beer and wine sale to raise funds for
community projects they sponsor throughout the year. The sale, possession and
consumption of beer and wine will be limited to invited guests and an area specifically
designated as such.
The City Council will grant, if passed, the sale of beer and wine contingent upon
approval of Palm Desert Police, and a one day permit issued by the Alcohol Beverage
Control Board. City staff will work with this professional women's organization on the
specific location and hours of operation for the beer and wine concession.
Staff recommends that the City Council permit the sale, possession and consumption
of alcoholic beverages pursuant to PDMC 9.58.040 to invited guests of the
Soroptimist International of Palm Desert's Fall Meeting scheduled to be held October
15, 19 9.

Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
City of Palm Desert
73-510 Fred Waring Drive
Palm Desert, California 92260
Dear Palm Desert City Council:
On October 15 and 16, 1999, Soroptimist International of Palm Desert, along with
Palm Desert Sunrise Soroptimist International, will proudly host Soroptimist
International Golden West Region's Fall Meeting at Palm Desert City Hall.
Because Soroptimist International's mission is to provide assistance to deserving
programs and individuals throughout our community, event planners have suggested
raising funds through the sale of beer and wine at their Friday evening dinner, which
has been scheduled to be held in Pavilion No. 1 at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park.
All regulations, restrictions, and requirements established by Alcohol Beverage Control
would be strictly adhered to, and sale and consumption of beer and wine would be
confined to the cemented area of the pavilion. Recipients of monies collected at this
event would be the organizations and programs outlined in the attached brochure.
Your every consideration of this request is most appreciated, as is the opportunity to
showcase Palm Desert to the professional women who will be traveling here from
cities throughout Soroptimist's Golden West Region. Thank you in advance for your
attention to this request.
Sincerely,
Aie,i,„,,,,,,
