HomeMy WebLinkAboutFifth Annual Art and Wine Tour of El Paseo 111[1- CITY OF PALM DESERT MEMORANDUM TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL FROM: DONNA GOMEZ, VISITOR CENTER MANAGER DATE: FEBRUARY 22, 2001 SUBJECT: FIFTH ANNUAL ART & WINE TOUR OF EL PASEO Recommendation: By Minute Motion, approve the request from Soroptimist International of Palm Desert to fund an amount not to exceed$1,300 for expenses associated with the 2001 Art and Wine Tour of El Paseo. Background: Soroptimist International of Palm Desert, the El Paseo Business Association, and local galleries and restaurants are joining once again to host the fifth annual Art & Wine Tour of El Paseo on Friday,March 2, 2001. Each year this event is organized to raise funds that will benefit desert charities. Participants will enjoy an evening of wine tasting, and food sampling while browsing the fine art at galleries along El Paseo. The tour of the galleries is completely self-directed, so participants can begin at any gallery and enjoy the event at their own pace. The City of Palm Desert has sponsored this event in the past and is once again being requested by Soroptimist to participate. The City will receive recognition as a sponsor in all event advertising and programs. Typically the City has incurred costs for placement of three klieg lights and operation of the Shopper Hopper during the hours of the event. This event serves as one of our largest fund raising efforts during the year with proceeds being donated to local community programs and projects. In the past, the City of Palm Desert has been very generous in supporting this event by granting approval of the use of three klieg lights during the event and the extension of the hours of operation of the Shopper Hopper. We are once again requesting approval of the use of klieg lights and the running of the Shopper Hopper from 5:00 p.m. through 8:30 p.m. on March 2. As in the past,we would like to request the City fund the cost of the klieg lights and the additional charges for operating the Shopper Hopper at a total price not to exceed $1,300.00.
