Recommendation
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with the Arthritis Foundation's second annual 5K
walk scheduled to be held on Saturday, May 3, 2003, at the Palm Desert Civic Center
Park.
Executive Summary
The Arthritis Foundation is hosting a 5-K walk to raise funds for research, education, and
programs sponsored by this organization. This application requests use of Civic Center
Park facilities and the funding of appropriate personnel at no charge to the organization.
Background
The Arthritis Foundation has requested that their second annual 5K walk be held at the
Palm Desert Civic Center Park on Saturday, May 3, 2003. Event planners recently met
with staff to outline and obtain approval for their proposed activities. Since this event is
held for the sole purpose of raising funds, event planners are requesting that the following
required fees be waived: a Maintenance Worker ($40 an hour for four hours), a Code
Compliance Officer($40 an hour for three hours), reservation fee($80), and administration
fee ($20) for a total of $380. In return for this consideration, the City of Palm Desert will
be recognized as an event sponsor on all publicity and materials.

event on May 3, 2003, at a total cost of $380.00.

Walk begins at 8:00 a.m.
Hi Pat,
I hope that all is well with you. We were so pleased with our experience at Palm
Desert Civic Center Park for our 1st Annual "Walk This Way"Arthritis Walk 2002 that
we wanted to be sure to request the date of Saturday, May 3, 2003 for the 2nd Annual
Arthritis Walk next year.
We plan to have a very similar set-up in 2003 as we did this past May as outlined
below:
Time: Set up crew to begin at 5:30am
Banners to be placed at Pavilion/stage
Breakdown Time: Walk ends at 12:30 p.m.
Expected number of Walkers: 300 to 350 people
Expected number of Dogs: 10
Schedule of Events:
7:00 am Registration- Bagels& Muffins provided for
walkers
8:00 am Program begins—Welcome by Arthritis Staff&
Board
Jazzercise Instructors provide warm-up exercises
8:30 am Walk begins- 10 Marshals along route/ 35
Volunteers assigned to walk
9:30 am Brunch provided by Mario's

Special Event prizes given out
Entertainment provided: magicians, clowns, and
guitar music
11:30 am Event wrap-up and clean up takes place.
Mix 100-5 is Radio Sponsor at the Walk. The
Arthritis Foundation will be using their PA
system.
Red Cross will provide First Aid.
No vehicles except golf cart will be allowed on
grass.
No ice will be on the grass.
No stakes will be used.
Volunteers will clean up Walk route and Event
area.
Certificate of Insurance to be provided by the
Arthritis Foundation.
