REQUEST: CONSIDERATION OF FEE WAIVER ASSOCIATED WITH 2002
MEMORY WALK SPONSORED BY THE ALZHEIMER'S
ASSOCIATION.
DATE: January 10, 2002
CONTENTS: REQUEST BY THE ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk
scheduled to be held Saturday, February 9, 2002, in the Palm Desert Civic Center Park.
Executive Summary
For the past several years, the Alzheimer's Association has sponsored its Memory Walk
to raise funds for research, education, and programs sponsored by this organization. This
request mirrors prior years, which is to use facilities and fund appropriate personnel at no
charge to the organization.
Background
In an attempt to increase awareness of the programs and services available to Alzheimer
victims and their families as well as raise funds for their implementation, the Alzheimer's
Association is organizing a Memory Walk. This activity is scheduled to be held on
February 9, 2002. Event planners recently met with staff to outline and obtain approval for
their proposed activity. Since this event is being held for the sole purpose of raising funds
and increasing public awareness of the disease, they are requesting that the following
required fees be waived: a Maintenance Worker ($40 an hour for six hours), a Code
Compliance Officer ($40 an hour for six hours), reservation fee ($80) and administration
fee ($200) for a total cost of $760.00. In return of this consideration, the City of Palm
Desert will be recognized on all event publicity and materials as a "Co-Sponsor".
