CONTENTS: REQUEST BY THE AMERICAN DIABETES ASSOCIATION
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with the American Diabetes Association's Tour
de Cure event scheduled to be held on Saturday, March 23, 2002, at the Palm Desert Civic

Executive Summary
The American Diabetes Association is sponsoring its Tour de Cure to raise funds for
research, education, and programs sponsored by this organization. This request mirrors
that of other non-profit organizations conducting business in the City of Palm Desert, which
is to use the facilities and fund appropriate personnel at no charge to the organization.
Background
The American Diabetes Association has requested that their annual Tour de Cure event
be held at the Civic Center Park on Saturday, March 23, 2002. Event planners recently
met with staff to outline and obtain approval for their proposed activities. Since this event
is held for the sole purpose of raising funds, event planners are requesting that the
following required fees be waived: a Maintenance Worker($40.000 an hour for six hours),
a Code Compliance Officer($40.00 an hour for six hours),the$80 reservation fee, and the
$20 administration fee for a total of $580.00. In return of this consideration, the City of
Palm Desert will be recognized as a "Sponsor" on all event publicity and materials.

Re: American Diabetes Association Tour De Cure Event
Dear Pat,
This letter is to confirm the date of Saturday, March 23, 2002 for the use of the Palm
Desert Civic Center Park. We would like to reserve the golf cart recharging area, a
portion of the adjacent grass area and the parking spaces immediately facing the area(see
attached map). The event set up will begin at 6:00 am and conclude at 2:00 pm.
The Tour de Cure is a signature fundraising event for the American Diabetes Association
with proceeds designated to research, education and outreach in our communities. We
would, therefore, like to request that the park facility fees be waived. We realize this
requires approval by the City of Palm Desert.
Additionally, outlined below are the specific uses of the area we request:
1. Golf cart recharging area to be used for registration and food/beverage distribution.
2. Adjacent lawn area to be used for rider staging and booth (information only) set up.
3. Parking area to be used for parking for participants.
Thank you for your assistance in securing the site for our event. We look forward to
hearing from you upon conformation of fee waiver. The ADA and its sponsors and
volunteers will adhere to any and all regulations set by your department. If you have any
questions, please feel free to call me at (909) 645-7405.
