REQUEST: CONSIDERATION OF FEE WAIVER ASSOCIATED WITH 2002
DESERT ROSE SOCIETY PRUNING DEMONSTRATION.
DATE: January 10, 2002
CONTENTS: REQUEST BY THE DESERT ROSE SOCIETY
Recommendation
By Minute Motion, waive fees associated with the Desert Rose Society's annual pruning
exhibition scheduled to take place on Saturday, January 12, 2002, in the Rose Garden
located at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park.
Executive Summary
Each year the Desert Rose Society sponsors a pruning exhibition at the Rose Garden
located at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park. The purpose of this demonstration is to
educate members of the community who might be interested in this type of activity as well
as prepare the Rose Garden located on the City of Palm Desert's property for the
upcoming season.
Background
Each year, the Desert Rose Society sponsors and presents a pruning demonstration for
interested individuals throughout the Coachella Valley. In order to facilitate this year's
activity, which is conducted by experts in this field, staff assistance will be required. Since
this non-profit organization maintains the Rose Garden, located at the Civic Center Park,
staff requests that the City Council waive fees of$120 for a Maintenance Worker($40 an
hour for three hours). In return for this consideration, the City of Palm Desert will be
recognized as an event sponsor in all publicity and materials.
