HomeMy WebLinkAboutPrsntatn - Fire Prevention WeekWhereas, the City of Palm Desert is committed to ensuring the
safety and security of all those living in and visiting our city; and
Whereas, fire is a serious public safety concern, both locally and
nationally, and homes are where people are at greatest risk from fire; and
Whereas, having a working smoke alarm cuts the risk of dying in a
fire by half. On average, 3 out of 5 home fire deaths result where there
are either no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms; and
Whereas, all smoke alarms should be replaced at least once every
10 years. Many Americans don't know how old the smoke alarms in their
homes are, or how often they need to be replaced; and
Whereas, Palm Desert's first responders are dedicated to reducing
the occurrence of home fires, home fire deaths, and injuries through
prevention and protection education. Palm Desert's residents are
responsive to public education measures and are able to take personal
steps to increase their safety from fire, especially in their homes; and
Whereas, the theme of Fire Prevention Week 2016 is "Don't Wait —
Check the Date! Replace Smoke Alarms Every 10 Years."
Now, Therefore, I, Robert A. Spiegel, Mayor of the City of
Palm Desert, Along With the Entire City Council, Do Hereby Proclaim the
week of October 9-15, 2016, as
Fire Prevention Week
in the City of Palm Desert and urge all residents to find out how old the
smoke alarms in their homes are, to replace them if they are more than
10 years old, and to participate in the many public safety activities and
efforts of Palm Desert's fire and emergency services during Fire
Prevention Week.
In Witness Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and have
caused the Official Seal of the City of Palm Desert,
California, to be affixed this 22nd day of September, 2016.
