CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the Public Safety Committee was called to order by Chair Wahlstrom on October 8, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. in the Administrative Conference Room, City Hall, located at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California. 2. PRESENTATIONS 4.a PRESENTATION FROM CVAG ON CV SYNC CVAG Program Manager Kristopher Gunterson provided a report regarding CV Sync and responded to Committee member inquiries. 4.b RIVERSIDE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES C.A.R.E. PROGRAM AND CURTAILING ABUSE RELATED TO THE ELDERLY Public Safety Analyst Hurtado presented a PowerPoint presentation on the C.A.R.E. program related to scams and responded to Committee member inquiries. Motion Carried (5 to 0) 6. CONSENT ITEMS HELD OVER None. 7. ACTION CALENDAR 7.a CITY OF GRANTS PASS V. JOHNSON SUPREME COURT RULING Homeless and Supportive Services Manager Tenorio narrated a PowerPoint presentation on the Grants Pass V. Johnson Supreme Court Ruling regarding homeless encampments and responded to Committee member inquiries. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & COMMENTS 8.a PUBLIC SAFETY COMMITTEE MEMBERS With consensus of the Committee the following items were requested to be included in future agendas: • Eliminate paper printed agenda packets, and use digital copies on tablets; • Provide an ALPR update and technology capabilities; • Provide an update on the new fire station; • Provide an update on the Warner Trail pothole; • Provide information on the agreement with Magnesia Falls traffic signal; • Provide Nixel information on significant events; • Provide an update on the Public Safety budget; • Provide a report on revenue and fee opportunities; • Provide an update on false alarms and potential approaches for Public Safety; • Provide an update on the Fire Symposium. Committee Member Alley invited Committee Members, staff, and Public Safety members to join the Citizens on Patrol annual conference on November 20, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in the Palm Desert Council Chamber. 8.b CITY COUNCIL LIAISON None. 8.c POLICE/FIRE Riverside County Sheriff Sgt. Cryder provided an update on Active Shooter Training at City Hall. Sgt. Olson provided a report on traffic statistics on Magnesia Falls Drive and Monterey Avenue and responded to Committee member inquiries. Chief Beverlin of CalFire/Riverside County Fire Department provided an update on significant incidents and department updates and responded to Committee member inquiries. 8.d CITY STAFF None. 8.e ATTENDANCE REPORT Report provided; no action taken on this item.
