Does the City own and maintain the tree? The City owns and contracts for the maintenance of tree. The current landscape maintenance contractor is West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA). (If the city does not own/maintain this tree, no need to answer remaining questions) 3 2. Who planted the subject tree? West Coast Arborists, Inc. (WCA) did not plant the tree. Work history from WCA began in 2019. 3. Was the tree planted as part of the city’s overall beautification design? The origin of the tree is unknown. The tree was part of the City’s Landscape Maintenance program for over fifteen (15) years. 4. What type of tree is this? Palo Verde 5. Is this type of tree intended for residential areas? Palo Verde trees are used in both Public and residential applications 6. What is the reasonable maintenance schedule for this type of tree? Prune every 1-2 years 7. What does staff believe was the cause of the failure? Wind 8. When staff inspected the tree following the failure, was there any decay or structural weakness noted? If so, was the decay/structural weakness visible from the outside? No and no 9. Were repairs to the adjacent sidewalk or street ever made in the past? If so, were any of the tree’s roots pruned? Was an arborist consulted prior to the roots being pruned to evaluate whether or not the structural integrity of the tree could be compromised? WCA did not perform these tasks. It is unknown to WCA if any sidewalk repairs or root pruning cuts were made. These typically would be done by City Public Works staff. 10. Were there documented complaints about the tree? If so, what did the City do in response to those complaints? There are no documented complaints in the system. These would have been received by City staff. 11. Have other trees of this type fallen in this neighborhood? If so, what was the cause of those failures, if known. Windstorms 12.
