Folkers, Assistant City Manager/Public Works Director SUBJECT: INFORMATIONAL ITEM: COOK STREET WALL AT VALLEY INDUSTRIAL PARK (PROJECT 688-98) DATE: February 25, 1999 The City staff is working with the design engineering firm, The Flying Buttress, to complete the plans and specifications based upon a meeting that was held with the City Manager and other staff late last month. The staff will have an exhibit that will show in large scale the proposed design. The intention is to have the low wall that would be paid for by the City and a minimum height wall on the Valley Industrial Park property that would be paid for by the Valley Industrial Park (V.I.P.) Association. Attached is a letter that was recently sent to the association explaining the progress on this project. The preliminary estimated cost for the association's portion is $40,000, and the estimated cost for the portion of the 2-foot planter in the City right-of-way is $25,000. No funding source has been identified at this time, but that information will be provided when the design is completed. This matter is being brought to the City Council as an informational item for discussion, and the staff will bring the plans and specifications for council's approval to go to bid when completed. 4 -e/f2 : ::DJ. Box 13392 PUBLIC WOrko UtrARTMENT Palm Desert, Ca. 92255-3392 CITY OF PALM DESERT February 1, 1999 Z(71- $ 7 Dear VIP Owners: The Board received a report from Francine Mathy, stating that after working with the City for many months the City will not participate financially with the building a new wall on Cook Street. The Board elected to assess each owner $1,000 per lot at the November 17th Board meeting. This was so we could rebuild the wall. — Now, THE GOOD NEWS! Uri Kohen, lot 37, went to the City and got us an appointment with the City Manager, Raymond Diaz along with his staff on November 20, 1998. Uri and I met with Mr. Diaz, and he decided at this meeting to help us financially, subject to City Council approval. He then directed his staff to redraw plans for the wall. This has been done and was discussed in a closed City staff meeting on January 26`h. A proposal will now be taken to the City Council Meeting on February 11, 1999! All VIP owners may benefit by attending! Hopefully, there will be NO assessment! We have no budget yet for the New Year. Current expenses are less than $250 a month. No meetings are planned until the wall dilemma gets resolved. See you at the Council Meeting! Lin W. Best, President LWB:jb Enclosures: 1998 Financials First quarter assessment
