ACTION CALENDAR 5.a EXPLORE COST OPTIONS FOR FENCING AROUND PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT AT CITY PARKS Management Analyst Swartz provided information related to fencing around playground equipment at Freedom Park and responded to Committee Member inquiries. Motion by: Committee Member O'Donnell Seconded by: Chair Maldonado After discussion, it was agreed to proceed with exploring cost options for fencing around playground equipment at City parks. This will include researching various height levels, starting with an assessment of Freedom Park. Motion Carried (8 to 0) 6. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS & COMMENTS 6.a UPDATES FROM PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS 6.a.1 Palm Desert Aquatic Center Family YMCA of the Desert Executive Director Paula Simonds provided a report and an update regarding a $50,000 grant from First Five to provide free swimming lessons to children aged 0-5 years old. No action taken on this item 6.a.2 First Tee - Coachella Valley Report provided; no action taken on this item . 6.a.3 Friends of the Desert Mountains Friends of the Desert Mountains Executive Director Tammy Martin provided a report and an update on the annual Friends of the Desert Mountains Connect to the Land Fundraising event taking place on November 13, 2024, at 4 p.m. 6.b UPDATES FROM EX-OFFICIO MEMBERS 6.b.1 Family YMCA of the Desert None. 6 Parks and Recreation Committee November 5, 2024 3 6.b.2 Desert Recreation District Desert Recreation District General Manager Kevin Kalman advised the Desert Recreation District location in Palm Desert is scheduled to have a ribbon cutting ceremony on December 7, 2024, at 10 a.m. 6.c PARKS AND RECREATION COMMITTEE MEMBERS None. 6.d CITY COUNCIL LIAISON Councilmember Trubee provided thank you cards to Committee Members on behalf of the City Council. 6.e CITY STAFF Recording Secretary Castellano provided information on a live, interactive AB1234 Ethics Training session, facilitated by attorneys from Best Best & Krieger on January 30, 2025, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. in the Palm Desert Council Chamber or virtually via Zoom. 6.f ATTENDANCE REPORT Report provided; no action taken on this item. 7. The Golf Center at Palm Desert Report 13 14 15 16 The Golf Center at Palm Desert NOVEMBER September-October 2024 2023 Range/Rental/Lesson $39,207 $49,857 Golf Course $ 8,498 $11,516 Merchandise/F&B $ 4,033 $ 4,768 Total $51,739 $66,141 Golf Course Update: The renovation of the East End Driving Range has been successfully completed, and the facility is now open to the public (refer to the picture below).  In the preceding months, revenue figures declined compared to 2023 due to the temporary closure for renovations. However, following the reopening of the newly renovated area, we are observing a positive trend in revenue.
