CALL TO ORDER A Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Committee was called to order by Chair Maldonado on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at 8:30 a.m. in the Administrative Conference Room, City Hall, located at 73-510 Fred Waring Drive, Palm Desert, California. 2. ROLL CALL 3. NON-AGENDA PUBLIC COMMENTS Kathy Walker, resident, provided comments regarding potential improvements at Homme Adams Park. Megan Fitz, resident, voiced concerns regarding broken glass in Homme Adams Park and requested that cooling systems be added to the drinking fountains. 4. CONSENT CALENDAR None. Motion by: Committee Member Guyer Seconded by: Committee Member Skogen To approve the consent calendar as presented. Motion Carried (6 to 0) 4.a APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion by: Committee Member Guyer Seconded by: Committee Member Skogen Approve the Minutes of May 6, 2025. INFORMATIONAL REPORTS 6.a FG CREATIVE PRESENTATION ON PALM DESERT AQUATIC CENTER Stephanie Green, FG Creative Consultant, narrated a PowerPoint presentation and responded to Committee Member's inquiries. No action taken. 6.b UPDATES FROM PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS 6.b.1 Palm Desert Aquatic Center Paula Simmonds, Family YMCA of the Desert, provided an update on increased staffing at the Palm Desert Aquatic Center and summarized the written report provided in the agenda packet. 6.b.2 First Tee - Coachella Valley A written report was included in the agenda packet. 6.b.3 Friends of the Desert Mountains Tammy Martin, Friends of the Desert Mountains announced that efforts are being made to deconstruct the illegal trail at Stone Eagle property and responded to inquiries. 6.b.4 Family YMCA of the Desert Paula Simmonds, YMCA of the Desert, provided an update on upcoming events. 6.b.5 Desert Recreation District Giovanna Healy, Desert Recreation District, informed the Committee of General Manager Kevin Kalman's upcoming retirement from Desert Recreation District and staffing changes at First Tee. Brenda Nutcher, Desert Recreation District, provided information regarding summer programming. 6.c CITY COUNCIL LIAISON City Council Liaison Evan Trubee provided updates on the pending Civic Center Park playground improvements and the naming of Dave Irwin Park. 6.d CITY STAFF Community Services Manager Shawn Muir provided information on park subsidies in response to questions from the previous meeting, specifically regarding the Palm Desert Aquatic Center. Project Manager Swartz informed the Committee that the July meeting would be cancelled due to the holiday and provided information regarding upcoming agenda items. REQUESTS FOR ACTION None. 8. ATTENDANCE REPORT Report provided; no action taken on this item. 9. ADJOURNMENT The Parks and Recreation Committee adjourned at 9:25 a.m. 10.
