COMMUNITY SERVICES DIVISION
QUARTER 3 REPORT – COACHELLA VALLEY MOUNTAINS CONSERVANCY CLIMATE RESILIENCE AND COMMUNITY ACCESS GRANT Submitted November 3, 2023
During Quarter 3 of 2023, City of Palm Desert staff continued to work with the contracted consultant, Interwest on finalizing the community park design. After conducting community workshops to share the design during Quarter 2, the feedback and input was considered as the final designs were developed. Some of these included the selection of recreational activities, plant types, accessibility and inclusion, and electric vehicle charging stations. In September, the City’s Development Services Department conveyed new information that the Developer Agreement for the Millenium Specific Plan, of which the park is a part, requires a 75-
foot landscape buffer between the active area of the park and the nearby homes. The consultant has since redesigned sections of the park to accommodate this requirement. The final concept design will be presented to the Parks and Recreation Committee for approval during its regular meeting on November 7, 2023. The Committee’s recommendation will then be brought to the City Council meeting on December 12, 2023 for approval. Once the concept
design has been approved, Interwest will continue to conduct engineering and environmental work to complete the project.
The addition of the landscape buffer caused an approximately two-month delay in the project schedule. An updated schedule has been requested by City staff and will be shared with CVMC on the Quarter 4 report.
