RE: City of Palm Desert: REAP 2.0 Regional Utilities Supporting Housing (RUSH) Grant Support Letter
To Whom It May Concern,
On behalf of Housing and Workforce Solutions of Riverside County I am writing in support of the City of Palm Desert’s application to SCAG’s REAP 2.0 PATH Regional Utilities Supporting
Housing program. We support the City’s efforts to seek and obtain funding for infrastructure improvements for flood mitigation and control efforts that will service the proposed Spanish
Walk Complex of the City and significantly contribute to long-term housing affordability and meet local housing need throughout the region. This project will have noteworthy benefit
on the safety and tenability of Palm Desert’s affordable housing supply, by ensuring that these complexes, and planned future developments, have the stormwater and flood mitigation
infrastructure to protect the area from severe flooding and stormwater damage. The area is currently at high risk of flooding and experienced a severe flooding disaster in August 2023
from Tropical Storm Hilary. The proposed improvements will establish retention basins, stormwater diversion infrastructure, and other flood mitigation measures to ensure this area of
the City is protected and viable for the current ongoing developments and future affordable housing developments.
As a regional partner, Housing and Workforce Solutions supports the City’s stormwater and flood mitigation efforts and believes that this project meets local housing and flood infrastructure
needs.
