HomeMy WebLinkAboutFinal Report - Overview (Submitted 10-23-25)SS4A Planning and Demonstration Final Report: Overview Section 24112 of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Public Law 117-58) requires that within 120 days after the period of performance all SS4A grant recipients provide a report that describes the costs, outcomes and benefits, lessons learned and any recommendations relating to SS4A grant activities. This information is also required by the SS4A Notice of Funding Opportunity and the SS4A grant agreement and Terms and Conditions. All recipients of Planning and Demonstration Grants are required to complete the final report form, including this initial Overview section. Depending on what was awarded in your SS4A grant agreement, you may need to complete up to three additional sections (New or Updated Action Plan, Supplemental Planning, and/or Demonstration Activities). You do not need to complete sections for activities that were not awarded as part of your SS4A grant award. For the questions below an asterisk (*) denotes a required response. This report is a final deliverable required to close out your grant. The information you submit will help the U.S. Department of Transportation understand the benefits and outcomes of the program and fulfill the Department’s requirements under Section 24112 to periodically share best practices and lessons learned. Response should be 1-2 paragraphs in length. * 8.   Through the SS4A-funded Vision Zero Strategy, Palm Desert learned the value of coupling data-driven analysis with robust community engagement. For example, the Safe Routes for Older Adults and Safe Routes to School plans provided not only infrastructure recommendations but also meaningful insights into barriers faced by vulnerable users, such as heat exposure, gaps in sidewalk connectivity, and unsafe crossings. A major benefit was the creation of a shared vision across community members, advisory boards, and city staff, which strengthened buy-in for future safety i t t Ch ll i l d d di ti lti l t k h ld Briefly describe any recommendations that could help inform the SS4A program and future plans, projects, and strategies to prevent fatalities and serious injuries on roads and streets, including: what additional activities would have been helpful to make the deliverables from this award even stronger? did you have the resources and time you needed? what do you wish you would have done, assuming you had additional time/money/resources? did the Department provide any information that was particularly useful to you? Response should be 1-2 paragraphs in length. * 9.   Looking forward, additional funding and time for demonstration projects and temporary installations would have strengthened the deliverables by testing solutions before permanent investment. While the City had sufficient resources to develop a comprehensive strategy, added capacity for pilot projects (e.g., lane narrowing or enhanced crossings) could have accelerated community acceptance and provided real-time feedback.
